Systematic Literature Review: Sustainability practices in Start-ups

Abstract

Start-ups and sustainability are growing in our society. For this reason, this paper is written with the aim to realize a systemic review of the literature in this topic. It analyses the characteristics of investors and entrepreneurs, the impact of existing green start-ups in society and if the institutional support is important for the development of the company. The most relevant results of each section show than the principal motivation of entrepreneurs is their social awareness with sustainability; traditional investors avoid investing in green start-ups; green start-ups need to use different management models than traditional start-ups; institutional support is crucial for the development and growth of a start-ups. However, it has been detected many gaps in the literature and to solve them, the paper proposes up to eight research questions to create a future agenda of investigation.

Las Start-ups y la sostenibilidad están creciendo en nuestra sociedad. Por esta razón, este documento está escrito con el objetivo de realizar una revisión sistemática de la literatura sobre este tema. Analiza las características de los inversores y empresarios, el impacto de las nuevas empresas ecológicas existentes en la sociedad y si el apoyo institucional es importante para el desarrollo de la empresa. Los resultados más relevantes de cada sección muestran que la principal motivación de los empresarios es su conciencia social con la sostenibilidad, los inversores tradicionales evitan invertir en nuevas empresas verdes, las nuevas empresas ecológicas deben usar modelos de gestión diferentes a las nuevas empresas tradicionales, y el apoyo institucional es crucial para el desarrollo y crecimiento de una start-up. Sin embargo, se han detectado muchas lagunas en la literatura y para resolverlas, el documento propone hasta ocho preguntas de investigación para crear una agenda futura de investigación.
